Jaguars (Panthera onca) are felines in the Panthera genus, and is the only Panthera species found in the Americas. The jaguar is the third-largest feline after the Tiger and the Lion, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. They closely resemble the leopard physically, although it is usually larger and of sturdier build and its behavioral and habitat characteristics are closer to those of the tiger. They live in dense rainforests, as well as a variety of forested and open terrains. Also, like Tigers, they happen to enjoy swimming.
Hunting tactics:
Jaguars are solitary and opportunistic, stalk-and-ambush predators with a very strong killing bite. They have a unique killing method as well: they bite the skull between the ears of the prey, piercing the brain.
Trivia:
- Jaguars are melanistic, like the leopard.
- Jaguars normally eat adult Caimans, Deer, Capybaras, Tapirs, Peccaries, Dogs, Foxes, and sometimes even Anacondas.
